Path Of Darkness, Path Of Light
During a lonely walk through the forest one day, I came upon a fork in the path. One direction was light, the sun's warm
rays beaming down on the multi-colored leaves, the birds singing; the second direction was darkness, a black void where
there seemed to be thousands of cold eyes glaring at me. I knew I had but one chance to choose the correct path, the one
that would lead me to happiness and show me the true meaning of life. I chose the lighted path. As I entered, my first
sight was beauty; all of creation as I'd never seen it before. As I continued down the path, it began to grow cloudy.
Itseemed I was moving in slow motion and it kept getting darker. As I neared the end of the path, I saw a beautiful rainbow.
The closer I got, the clearer the meaning of life became. When I got to the rainbow, I stretched out my arms towards it.
As the tips of my fingers touched it, I felt a surge of electricity throughout my entire body. Instinctively, I followed
this rainbow. There were many obstacles in my way and I stumbled many times in my attempt to find the end of the rainbow.
At long last I saw the end! Setting beside it was a large golden pot. I envisioned treasures untold as I neared the golden
urn. My legs began to shake as a black cloud moved overhead, breaking off the sunlight. As I stood on my toes peering into
the pot, it suddenly came to me. The meaning of life was so very clear! The golden pot was empty. It was darkness, a black
void where there seemed to be thousands of cold eyes glaring at me......
The fact that the path lies in darkness does not signify it is evil, any more than good is signified by the lighted path....
it's not the paths that are good or evil, it is the travelers following the paths that make those decisions. Expect to
receive back that which you give away and make your choices according to your own desires. Plan your actions according to
your own conscience and live your life the way you want to be remembered in death, every day, every hour, every minute.
Know and understand yourself and your limitations but don't always accept them without trying, without questioning, without
struggling to go above and beyond them. It's the only sure way to know if you are capable of any task put before you. Know
that for every action in this world, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Choose your actions accordingly. Then take
responsibility for those actions. Know that every decision you make, no matter how minute or enormous in the scheme of your
life, holds advantages and disadvantages. It's up to each of us to weigh these out and make decisions based on that process.
We come into this life for a reason. Our own reason. Each of us has to decide for ourselves what that reason is and accept it
or struggle against it. Two people can stand side by side doing the same jobs most of their lives, one hating every minute of
his existance, struggling for ways to avoid the reality of his life, while the other knows inner peace and is truly a happy
person and comfortable with his path. Know that no matter what happens to you personally, the sun WILL still rise tomorrow.
You can accept it and be at peace with it or you can struggle.
The paths are before you to choose.
I wrote the
first part of this piece years ago and just recently finished the the second part. Since they
both deal with paths, I thought it appropriate that they should be on a page together. :)
